Hingham Pole Vault Team Excels at the DII State Relays

The Girls Pole Vault A team relay of Isabelle Gay, Lila Belsher, and Peyton Belsher jumped a combined height of 24'6" breaking their own school pole vault relay record.  This placed them 3rd at the State Relay Championships.  The Pole Vault B team of Alexandra Gay, Alexandra Colby, and Maja Nielsen placed 4th.   Maja Nielsen, out of our B team, broke our school pole vault record with her jump of 9'6".  This was a 2'6" improvement on her best from last year and added 6" to our previous school record.  This gives the girls track team 10 points going into the remainder of the State Relay Championships event held on Sunday in Walpole.

This is Hingham's second year with a pole vault facility.  The record has been held by 3 athletes on our current team (Peyton Belsher, Isabelle Gay, and now Maja Nielsen).

Last year Maja did not get to compete at State Relays because our B team request was rejected.  We were very happy to prove that both the A and B team deserved to be there.  Having an athlete on the B relay break a school record with a 2'6" personal improvement isn't something you plan for.  The girls were all very proud of her.    The team is also very excited to have 10 points already going into the remaining events at the State Relay Championships on Sunday.
