Hingham High School Names George Rose as Girls Varsity Cross Country Coach

Principal Rick Swanson and Director of Athletics Jim Quatromoni are proud to announce George Rose as the next Varsity Girls Cross Country Head Coach at Hingham High School.

Coach Rose joins the Hingham athletic department with over 30 years of cross country coaching experience. His head coaching stops include Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Weymouth South High School, Carver High School, and Sacred Heart High School.  Coach Rose was the interim head women's coach at Bates College in 1990 and most recently an assistant coach at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham where he teaches Social Studies.

A two time Boston Globe Coach of the Year, Coach Rose led his teams at Notre Dame Academy to seven consecutive EMass titles and four consecutive state championships.  In 2010, the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association inducted George Rose into their Hall of Fame.  George Rose - MSTCA Hall of Fame

"I am grateful and excited to be invited to join the Hingham Harborwomen (and Harbormen) Cross Country teams as a coach, serving a school community which enjoys a celebrated and renowned athletic tradition and history," Rose said. "I am eager to share my life-long passion and experience of running and coaching with our Hingham High School student-athletes by bringing a holistic approach to the continued development of every member of our team."

Hingham High School Names Jordan Lay as Girls' Varsity Volleyball Coach

Principal Rick Swanson and Director of Athletics Jim Quatromoni are proud to announce Jordan Lay as the next Varsity Girls Volleyball Head Coach at Hingham High School.

Coach Lay joins the Hingham athletic department with 12 years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience. His Head Coaching stops include the Butler University Women's Club Team, Belhaven University, University of West Alabama, and Lamar University.  Coach Lay was most recently the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Mississippi State University.  

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Hingham family," Lay said. "A special thank you to Director of Athletics, Jim Quatromoni for entrusting me to lead our volleyball program.  I look forward to continuing the growing success of Hingham Volleyball and striving to reach new heights.  Go Harborwomen!"

"As Jordan mentioned in our interview, he aspires to help develop student-athletes that are champions of character while maintaining the highest level of competition. Hingham High School Names TJ Byrne as Varsity Football Coach

 

Principal Rick Swanson and Director of Athletics Jim Quatromoni are proud to announce TJ Byrne as the next Varsity Football Head Coach at Hingham High School.

Coach Byrne joins the Hingham High School athletic department with more than twenty years of high school coaching experience including eight seasons as a varsity head coach.  Coach Byrne has most recently been the varsity football coach at Weymouth High School a position he has held since 2018. A Hingham resident, TJ has been a Massachusetts State Trooper since 2005.

 “Being able to come home and be a part of the home town football team is special,” Byrne said.  “Hingham football has had a long-standing history of success and I am looking forward to continuing and contributing to that legacy.”

“Coach Byrne has proven that he can develop strong cultures which have lead to success on the field,” Quatromoni said.  “He truly recognizes the role of athletics in helping student-athletes achieve the best versions of themselves.  Coach is a resident of Hingham, and we look forward to welcoming him to our athletic community as our head football coach.”

Hingham High School names Courtney Turner as Girls' Ice Hockey Coach

 

Principal Rick Swanson and Director of Athletics Jim Quatromoni are proud to announce Courtney Turner as the next Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey Head Coach at Hingham High School.

Turner joins the Hingham High School athletic department with experience at the highest levels of collegiate and professional hockey.  She has coached with Pro Ambition Hockey since 2011, serving as the head coach for skill development since 2017.  Currently, Coach Turner is a teacher and coach at Lovell Academy in Rockland.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to coach this team.  Hingham has a long standing history of successful athletics, and I hope to add to that legacy," Turner said.  "Aside from the aspiring athletic success I have for my student-athletes, I hope to make a lasting impression on their development as hard-working, compassionate and successful individuals."

"We are extremely fortunate to have a coach with the level of experience that Coach Turner has," Quatromoni said.  "We are looking forward to seeing her embrace her new role with our program and helping our student-athletes achieve the best versions of themselves on and off of the ice." 

Turner had a standout playing career.  She grew up in Milton and attended the Dexter Southfield School in Brookline.  Turner went on to play both hockey and lacrosse at Union College where she was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Academic Team as a senior. 

After college, Turner was selected as the first overall pick in the 2017 Canadian Women’s Hockey League draft by the Boston Blades.  She played 3 seasons with the Blades.  Turner then played 3 additional seasons with Team Bauer in the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association.  During her professional career, Turner also earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Boston College.

Hingham High School names Mary-Frances Monroe as Girls' Soccer Coach

Principal Rick Swanson and Director of Athletics Jim Quatromoni are proud to announce Mary-Frances Monroe as the next Varsity Girls Soccer Head Coach at Hingham High School.

Monroe joins the Hingham athletic department with a litany of experience at the highest levels of collegiate and professional soccer. She has been a college head coach for 14 years combined between the University of Albany and the University of Miami. For the last two seasons, Coach Monroe has been an assistant coach with the Hingham Girls' Soccer Program.  Currently, Coach Monroe is the Commissioner of the Development Player League.  The DPL is an elite platform for youth soccer clubs to compete across the country.

"I am very excited to be the next girls' soccer coach at Hingham High School,"  Monroe said.  "I am looking forward to getting started and helping our student-athletes grow on and off of the field."

"We are extremely fortunate to have a coach with the level of experience that Coach Monroe has as both a player and a coach," Quatromoni said.  "We are looking forward to seeing her embrace her new role with our program and helping our student-athletes achieve the best versions of themselves." 

Monroe had a standout playing career. After playing six sports over the course of her high school career in New York, Monroe went on to play soccer at the University of Connecticut and then the University of California Los Angeles.  During her college career, Monroe was a 2 time Academic All America, 4 time All-American, MVP of the PAC-10 Conference and 3 time Herman Award Finalist - an honor bestowed to the best female soccer player in the country.  She was also the NSCAA Freshman of the year at UConn.  

After college Monroe was a member of the U.S. Women's National Team and played professionally overseas and with both the Philadelphia Charge and Boston Breakers.

Procedure for Requesting a New Sport

 Procedure for Requesting a New Sport

  1. Contact the athletic director in writing to discuss the new sport.

  2. Present rationale (i.e. – interest level, established youth program with no place to go once students reach high school etc.)

  3. Athletic Department will conduct a feasibility study which will include the following:

  1. What is the number of students interested in playing?

  2. Is it a Patriot League and/or MIAA sport?

  3. How does it impact the Title IX status and gender balance?

  4. Does it provide an opportunity for a previously underserved segment of the student population?

  5. Identification of potential practice and game facility

  6. Schedule development – Who will we compete with?

  7. Budget preparation

  8. What is the financial impact of starting and continuing the sport?

  9. How will the sport be financed?

  1. The athletic director will present the findings of the feasibility study, including a recommendation, to the Principal and Superintendent. 

  2.  The Hingham School Committee must approve all new programs.

  3.  Upon approval of the school committee, the athletic director will complete  the following:

  1. Interview potential coaches and make a recommendation to the principal.

  2. Develop a game, practice and transportation schedule.

  3. Purchase equipment and uniforms.

  1. The New coach and staff will conduct sign-up meetings and prepare for the upcoming season exactly like the rest of the Hingham High School coaching staff.

Hingham High School names Roland Millien as Girls' Basketball Coach

Hingham High School has named Roland Millien as its next girls' basketball coach, as announced by Director of Athletics Jim Quatromoni and Principal Rick Swanson.

"We are truly excited to announce Roland Millien as our next girls' basketball coach," said Quatromoni. "After an impressive playing career at Stoughton High, Bridgewater State and on the professional level, Roland now applies his relentless approach to leadership and coaching.  I trust that this approach will help to push our program to the next level and positively impact the culture of Harborwomen Basketball." 

Roland was a 2 year captain at Stoughton High School where he reached 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.  He again became a 2 year captain, 1,000 point scorer, and achieved 1,000 rebounds at Bridgewater State.   In his senior year at Bridgewater State, Roland was named the Student-Athlete of the Year.  After college, Roland played professionally in the Boston Basketball Exposure League and in 2014 played for the Haitian National Team.
  
Roland spent four years as boys' assistant coach at Milton Academy.  He has been the girls' varsity coach at Milton High School since 2017 helping the Wildcats reach the state tournament in his first year on the job.

"I'm excited and so happy to be welcomed into the Hingham Community, " said Millien.  "I'm looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to a group of hard working and talented student-athletes.  Now let's get to work!"

Coach Millien is a special education teacher's assistant at the Helen H. Hansen Elementary School in Stoughton.  He lives in Middleboro with his partner and daughter.
